My sister, Lanier, spent close to 15 years in Washington, D.C. I had the privilege of calling our Nation’s Capitol a second home – thanks to her wonderful tour guide skills and unending southern hospitality! My favorite time to visit – April.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival occurs during the last weekend of March and commemorates the gift of the Japanese Cherry Trees from Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City to the city of Washington. In the Spring season, Washington is littered with shades of blush and the stunning beauty of thousands of trees, making April a stunning time to enjoy the history and culture of the District.
There are many ways to enjoy the sites of these incredible trees. Visit the National Cherry Blossom Festival to find out more (and even schedule a bike tour!) What are your favorite monuments in Washington? Share some of your tourist to-do’s with me in the comment section below!
