As the temperatures rise and the colorful petals of crepe myrtles open, I wake up with an eagerness to find adventure in the rural towns of the Carolinas. While I have lived in the area for most of my life, weekend road trips always seem to open up new spots of interest. On a return trip from Hilton Head, my husband and I decided to extend our trip with a day-venture to a small town just outside of Charleston. Friends, welcome to beautiful Beaufort, SC.
With over 30 square miles of land and water to explore, Beaufort is a stunning part of the Sea Islands. It is home to nearly 13,000 residents and the second oldest city in South Carolina (just after Charleston!) If you’re up for a bit more adventure, it’s perfect proximity between Charleston and Savannah afford easy day trips to two more quintessential southern cities. Prefer to stay in town? Beaufort boasts incredible antique shops, historic landmarks, quaint art galleries, and fine southern food at every corner. And fun fact – parts of the Oscar winning film “Forrest Gump” were filmed in Beaufort!
