While Charleston is known for both its historic architecture and fantastic landscapes, the summer heat can certainly be overwhelming! Today, I’m sharing picnic preparations at the Battery – an idyllic setting for a picnic thanks to the cool shade of its trees and close proximity to water.
First, select a carrying case for your items. While a traditional picnic basket is beautiful – and so fun – I find tote bags with cooling liners easier to carry and more conducive to summer picnics. Personally, I love Scout Bag’s colorful tote. I tend to pair it with my S’Well bottle, which keeps beverages cool for up to 12 hours!
Next, it’s food prep time! Opt for easy-to-assemble tea sandwiches like chicken salad for a refreshing summer lunch. Consider adding fruit skewers to keep everything together (and easy to eat while sitting on the ground! Add a bottle of lemon Pellegrino, and lunch is served!
Now for the grand finale – a dessert that can withstand a sunny (and warm) afternoon? Try these peanut butter and jelly bars for the perfect complement to your cheery picnic. (Click on the link for the full recipe!)
