Clutter. It is truly the bain of my motherhood existence. It seems like – as soon as I have a room picked up – it turns back into a complete disaster. In recent weeks, I have tried to focus on one room at a time – decluttering as I go, and pulling what I don’t need to make room for what I do!
In reviewing a helpful online article, I implemented a few tips and tricks to organize my space. Here are four things on which I am focused to create a more organized home.
- The 12-12-12 challenge: find 12 things to donate, 12 to throw away, and 12 to return!
- Set a timer: this is a new favorite for me! I set a timer for 5 minutes and focus on organizing one particular section of your home. Once the timer stops – move on!
- Give away one item a day: I’ve adjusted this tip a little bit to “buy one, give one.” Anytime I purchase something new, I remove an equivalent amount from my closet. While it’s not necessarily a “declutter,” it certainly prevents over cluttering!
- Grab four boxes: I love this declutter method, because it simplifies what can often become overwhelming. Grab four boxes and label them “recycle, giveaway, donate or keep.” Peruse your home and declutter!
