He’s famous on Facebook. He keeps his own hashtag (#jaspersmiles). His photo graces our website as the link to this blog. He’s my sidekick, best friend, and first child. Given that the week started with National Puppy Day, we found it appropriate to formally introduce you to my blogging buddy and “chief puppy officer,” Jasper Jeremiah Wilson.
I grew up in love with animals. My sister and I did our best to sneak baby birds in the house, a turtle in the bathtub, and and any other creature that could possibly walk on a leash. Mom and Dad pacified our love of pets with a sweet Toy Poodle, Sunny, and a precious Maltese, Caddie. Our childhood was never without a tiny white fluff of love.
Even as a child, I dreamed of having a “big dog when I became a big girl.” When my husband and I married in the Fall of 2009, we committed to one year of marriage before bringing a dog into our home. He felt it was the wise, foundational thing to do (of course. Leave the rationale to an accountant!) Well…we made it four months. 5 years ago this week, we opened our home to Jasper and marked our first year of marriage with my husband’s fifth golden retriever (continuing the tradition of major life events tied to a particular pup!)
March, 2010: Jasper and my husband Thomas, on night one with our fur baby
Today, Jasper’s memory book is full of Chapel Hill dog parks, five weeks of cross country road travel, almost two years of Canadian adventure, and plenty of swims in Carolina waters. He continues to bless our lives with his adventurous spirit, compassionate snuggles, and perfectly timed intuition. And he is busy keeping me in line as I work alongside my National family!
Christmas, 2012: The Wilson family in Whistler, BC
Most of all, he is eager to meet your favorite friend! Do you have a pet you absolutely adore? I wanna meet your fur baby! Send a photo and story to firstname.lastname@example.org. You just may see your sweet one right here!
Love from me and licks from Jasper!
