As a child, I admired my grandmother’s coffee table books – many of which portrayed the beautiful stories of the world’s royalty. I remember gazing at a photo Grace Kelly, breathtaking in her glorious wedding gown (complete with a tiara). She was…and is…the quintessential image of royalty.
Grace Kelly captivated America with her stunning appearance and brilliant acting career. Spotted in memorable films like “To Catch a Thief” and “Mogambo.” On April 19th, 1956, she swept the cover of fashion magazines and media coverage when she married Prince Rainier the III. Her dress remains one of the most famous of all celebrity and royal gowns – and rightfully so!
Grace Kelly’s iconic gown included 300 yards of antique Belgian lace and 150 yards of silk, taffeta and tulle. 90 yards of tulle and lace formed her incredible veil. Additional details included seed pearl embroidered seams, and a beaded tiara to hold the veil. The intricate details required the attention of 30 studio seamstresses!
